Fall semester update

Hello all and happy fall!

The Wisconsin Evans Scholars have been extremely busy the last few weeks, and we’re only four weeks into the semester!

The chapter started off the semester by integrating a class of 17 freshmen Evans Scholars into the Scholarship House and getting them acquainted with the University of Wisconsin. The new Scholars spent a week before classes kicked off getting to know each other through ice-breaker and welcome week activities provided by the university. They also spent some time electing their class representatives (president, vice president and social), and attending their first chapter meeting. Our new Scholars have joined a variety of organizations and now that midterms are upon us, they’ve been hitting the library during the daily “study hours” harder than ever. Their new Scholar educator and other upperclassmen from the chapter take them to various libraries and other locations to study on campus so they can find their favorite place to study and learn about all the tools available to them through the university.

Apart from our new Scholars, the rest of our Scholars have been hustling and bustling as well!

In September, our parents traveled to Madison from northern Wisconsin, the Milwaukee metropolitan area and the Chicago suburbs to join us in celebrating a Badger win against Georgia State! With more than 80 Scholars and parents attending our annual parents tailgate, we had a great time socializing and eating good food with our family members and friends.

Coming up in the next weeks, our Scholars will be actively involved in community service, including hosting a blood drive and volunteering at a nursing home and the Ronald McDonald House. The Scholars will also be getting into their fall spirit with their annual pumpkin carving contest.

With our group of very motivated and diverse Scholars there is always something new they’re up to, and we’ll keep you posted as new events and Scholar updates emerge!
